Pointing

Highbury Grove, complete referb
Date: Jan 2008.
Location: Highbury, Islington, London.
Duration: 5 Weeks.
Highbury Grove Court is situated over a mainline for British Rail. Â Extreme Access were approached by the surveyor in charge, and asked for a solution that would enable the railway elevation to be completed, works would include, geotechnical works at ground level, re pointing, stack replacements, window installations and painting.

Scaffolding was completely out of the question as the main line track was approx. 3 meters from the buildings extremity.
We conducted a site survey and proposed all requested works could be completed. Due to the distance between the working area and the live track of the railway we worked closely with Network Rail and completed all geotech work at ground level during a planned power shutdown of the line. This work was conducted at night to minimise disruption to commuters and we had a 2 hour window to finish the work.
All other works were monitored closely by project managers for both companies. This project posed very real safety issues and the utmost vigilance was required at all times.
Our work included the replacement of cast iron stacks and fixings, external assistance and mastic application of new UPVC windows, extensive brickworks and over 100m2 of re pointing and the painting of previously painted areas.
All works were completed to the highest standard and the surveying company and the contractor’s first collaboration with Industrial Abseiling was a resounding success.
We have since worked on numerous projects with both companies.
